Athlete Armor

recovery for today’s over-trained athlete

The trend in today’s highly competitive youth (Jr. and Sr. High) athletics can be summed up in one word: MORE. Young athletes are being required or “strongly suggested” to attend longer practices, multiple practices per day, have a personal trainer, go to added strength and conditioning classes, join a club team on top of their school team and are being pulled in every direction. Parents are shuttling their kids around to so many things it makes their heads spin.

In the cutting-edge training programs, the best coaches are seeing this over-training lead to injuries, burn-out, lack of motivation and simply a loss of FUN in the sports kids are participating in. Instead of propelling young athletes farther and helping them get better, they are being beat down and not able to keep up.

Don’t buy complexity; the simpler you make your training, the better the results become.
— Ryan Flaherty - Senior Director of Performance at Nike

Athlete armor is designed to combat over-training by building their “athletic armor”

Young athletes should be taught how to recover from a hard training session, how much is too much, what their body and mind’s warning signals are, and exercises to help build joint durability and balance. Athlete Armor is designed to combat these needs and build an athlete’s suit of armor against injury and burn-out. Through building on foundational concepts of recovery, durability, balance, and coordination athletes participating in Athlete Armor will be able to take on their training schedule with confidence as well as know when to give their body a chance to recover and how to do so.
